Arkansas Weather
Hi, this is Gabe. I want to tell you about our crazy weather. In the last week or so the weather has been in the twenties. Then today and last night it was in the sixties. It is dropping.
Christmas Break
Hello there!
This week is 'Finals' week for us at Ridgway Christian School. We will start a 2 week Christmas break on 18-12-10, and will be back in school the 4th of January. We had very cold weather early this week, with the high's being barely above 2 degrees C. Yesterday the high was 18 degrees C as a low pressure system moved in off of the Gulf of Mexico. As to be expected, we had some rain this morning.
Most of my students stay in the area for Christmas, with some of them doing some hunting during vacation. We have several hunters in my classroom; they hunt deer, duck, geese, squirrels, turkey and even razorbacks! (wild boars). They all eat what they hunt! As you may be able to tell, Arkansas is a rural state with lots of game to hunt!
We all hope you have a very enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Weather
Hi, this is Gabe & Lynde(: We have recently been in a burn ban for 3 months, and we just got out of it like 2 or 3 days ago. We have gotten a lot of rain in the past few days. And as of now, it is fall, but it feels like winter! Haha(: This Saturday we are going to go through a time change. We go back an hour, which means we get another hour of sleep! Yay(: Another cool thing we did recently, we made a garden out in the field by our school. The bad thing is we think the deer ate all our broccoli. We are sad:(. Welp, goodbye for now!! Until next time, this is Gabe & Lynde(:

Weather & Science
Hey, this is Lynde and Chance. In science class today, we had a sunspotter & looked at a sunspot on the sun! It was very cool. Speaking of cool, the weather here in Pine Bluff has been somewhat cold. One day it was warm & sunny, and the next day it was cold & windy. It's turning fall here. The leaves are turning red, brown, & orange! Fall means Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then later winter for Christmas! Santa Claus! Haha(: Next week in science class we are gonna make solar hot dogs with a solar oven. Well, goodbye for now! :-) -Lynde and Chance(:

Spiritual Emphasis Week
This week while we were sitting in Earth and Space Science class, we saw a dust devil. It was about 15-30 meters tall is what our science teacher said. She told us about when she stepped into one, she came out covered in dust and was filthy. The heat this week was in the mid 30's C and when we walked outside yesterday to test out our homemade telescopes the heat took the breath out of me, thank goodness for wind. Our teacher has been talking about how the weather has affected us this month. We have had less than 2.5 centimeters of rain. It is really dry and everyone has been praying for rain. I know I sure have. It has been so hot this week. We thought that we saw rain clouds in the sky this evening but it hasnt rained yet, we are praying it does. Before we go into a drought.

Tomorrow is 9/11/10 with 12% chance of rain due to tropical storm, Hermes. Fall is on the way, which means colorful leaves and high winds. That's all for today. Hey! This is Madison and Rainey.(: We were just dropping in to talk about some of the weather here. First of all, it's been pretty cool down in Arkansas. We have had really nice weather. Second, we have been having a lot of fun in science talking about the weather and how everything affects the earth. Third, we have been talking about the weather in the cave. Its going to be so fun!
Well, we heard about hurricane Earl. We learned that Earl is not going to be heading to the gulf, but it is going up the East Coast. We hope all goes well and nobody gets hurt. With this hurricane, hopefully all the oil will be washed away.!
Well, until next time, have a good day! Goodbye!!

Field trip
This is Gabe Harris and Jada Anderson. Next Friday we are going on a field trip to a cave in northern Arkansas. The cave is going to be 14.4 degrees Celsius!! We will be walking over 700 steps. We are probably going to be tired when we get done. We're going to eat chicken strips, hamburgers, cheese, ham, and turkey sandwiches for lunch.
This cave is called Blanchard Springs Caverns and is a limestone cave. We have a huge limestone deposit in Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri, our neighbor state.

Welcome to a new school year!
Welcome to a new school year!
This is teacher Diedre Young and we will be starting up the blog this week and hope our German friends can post on their blog too!
It has been very hot here! 105 F (40.5 C) and with the heat index, as high as 115 F (46.1 C)! We have had heat advisories almost every day!
Right now, the National Weather Service is tracking Hurricane Danielle that will mostly likely hit the North and South Carolina coasts. It is currently a Category 2 Hurricane with winds at 100 mph (116 Km per hour)
We get hurricanes this time of year due to the storms that come off of Africa and then drift and grow towards the USA and South America.
We also start to get more tornadoes this time of year due to the cooler weather coming from the north hitting the warm humid weather off the Gulf of Mexico.
Next time we blog we will talk about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and how it has affected our region.

Jensen and Hailey speaking here: Well, our school year is almost over and everybody is so happy. It was a fun school year and a crazy one too. For some people the year went so fast (like us) but for others it went by very, very slow. Either way, we all got through it and we can all say that we did a job well done :-). As of today, we only have 7 and a half days left. Next Monday and Tuesday we will be taking finals and nobody is happy about it, at all. After that the year will be pretty much be over. We really wont be doing anything else on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Murder On School Campus!
Last week, the Ridgway Christian School science classes offered kids of all ages to come and be investigators for a night. Two different crime scene scenarios were offered: an investigation of a messy art room and a murder scene. Though the murder scene was staged, the kids still had a blast! :)
The first crime scene scenario, offered to the elementary students, was a trashed art room. The participants studied the clues in the messy art room. They then went to booths like footprint analysis and fiber analysis to try and solve the crime! It turns out that it was simply a raccoon who trashed the art room.
The second crime scene scenario, offered to the high school students, was a "murder" scene. The scene included a Mercedes with a blood-stained interior that was also filled with different clues. Footprints all around the car helped us determine who the "murderer" was. There were four suspects: Cole Caine, Esther Coli, Ben Dover, and Eileen Dover. The participants were allowed to go to interview the suspects, as well as go to booths like the elementary students did.
The "murderer"? Cole Caine, of course.

The Big Storms
Storms
A few days a go we had several cells come through. Normally we have squall line in stead of different cells. Some of the cells became violent; like tornado producing storms. I think White county was hit with a tornado. There were four confirmed tornadoes. To be exact there was two tornadoes in White and like two in Pulaski county. If it was just a squall line there may not have been so many tornadoes. At the end of cells there are tornado and there was like three or four cells. And there was like three or four tornadoes. There was one confirmed death.

Spring?...Almost!
By: Mary Jane Lytle and Lauren Box
Whew! It's finally March! (At least on the calendar) We are still having cool wintery weather! Hopefully this weekend we will get our expected Spring weather. Thankfully it has been sunny, though. Around here, Spring brings a lot of happiness. Spring Break! Our school has its spring break in 2 weeks. We are all getting very excited. Spring officially starts March 21, but we are still excited every year to see the sun shining and to welcome the Spring months (even though they might be a little chilly still). Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Ice Storm!
Hello there!
This is Mrs. Young. I am posting the weather blog today because school was cancelled due to an ice storm that has gone through our state. All schools were closed in Arkansas except for the extreme southern end of the state. We will be getting sleet and snow tonight, and it has swept through Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas! Even our airport in Little Rock was closed for severa hours!
We have several branches that were broken off due to the heavy ice and even trees that toppled over. Power has been off and on all day due to transformers being hit by branches.
Hopefully everything will be back to normal by tomorrow afternoon.
We are enjoying your weather blog! Keep it up !
